The bicentennial commemoration of the life and work of the inventor of the Braille has been held. The Braille is a system of writing and printing for blind or visually impaired persons, which was devised in 1821 by Frenchman Louis Braille.
In an address, at the GAB conference room, Mr. Yaw Ofori Yeboah, the President of the Ghana Association of the Blind, said generations of blind people around the world have benefited from the use of the Louis Braille. ‘‘Thanks to the introduction of Braille by the Presbyterian Missionaries into Ghana, many blind people today are teachers, lawyers, engineers, writers , educationalists among many others’’, noted Mr. Debrah.
The Braille is one of the most significant innovations in modern history. Its inventor Louis Braille himself got blind at the age of three, and developed his system as an improvement on the books he used at the school he attended for the blind.
