Persons with Disability (PWDs) who have attained some excellence in their respective fields were honored in a special disability concert and awards, held in Accra as part of the annual celebrations of the International day of the Disabled. The award was organized under the auspices of the GFD in collaboration with the National Council on Disability and others partners, was meant to serve as a source of motivation to all Persons with Disability to rise above the barriers created society.
Among the awardees was James Entsie of the Ghana Association of the Blind who was honored in recognition of his exceptional entrepreneurship skills in the field of auto mechanics. Botsio Nkegbe of GSPD won the sports category for his excellent performance in international wheel-chair racing and for promoting disability sports in Ghana.
Mr Samuel Asare, the current president of the Ghana National Association of the Deaf and the GFD also received an award for his outstanding leadership skills. Below is the full list of awardees;
- Samuel Kwesi Asare: In recognition of outstanding leadership skills leading to the progress of the Ghana National Association of the Deaf and the Ghana Federation of the Disabled.
- James Entsie in recognition of exceptional entrepreneurship skills in the field of auto mechanics.
- Botsio Nkegbe excellent performance in wheel-chair racing in Africa and for promoting disability sports in Ghana.
- Dr Essel Hagan: Special award In recognition of outstanding leadership skills that culminated in the establishment of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, and contribution to scientific research in Ghana.
- Grace Preko: for immense contributions towards the development of the National Disability Movement.
- Evelyn Appiah: In recognition of exceptional achievement as the first blind female lawyer in Ghana.
- Pape Cheikh Diouf: international goodwill ambassador in championing the cause of persons with disability in Africa.
- Kudakwashe Dube: CEO African Decade: for championing the cause of persons with disability in Africa.
- Sékou Diakité, Minister of Social Development and Elderly persons in Mali: In recognition of contribution to the mainstreaming of disability in Mali.
- Rev. Father Campbell: for exemplary initiative towards the eradication of leprosy and support for persons with disability in Ghana.
