GFD Gender Project on Course

To improve the inclusion of special needs and priorities of women with disability, The Ghana Federation of the Disabled (GFD) is currently implementing a Gender project dubbed “Empowering Women with Disabilities in Ghana”.The scheme was borned out of the Federation’s recognition of the fact that gender relations and inequalities are among the fundamental causes of women’s lesser participation in socio-political activities.

A 2008 gender audit carried out in four selected disability orgaisations showed a great gender disaparity in favor of men, in terms of governance participation in  activities. The projects aims to facilitate the development of a comprehensive geneder policy, and networking between the Gender wings of the GFD’s member organizations.

The Women’s project is being funded by DANIDA and presently under implementation in three three districts namely; Ho Manya Krobo, Birim South.
