Mr. Samuel Asare, GFD President |
GFD is set to begin a full implementation of the second phase of the DANIDA sponsored “Strengthening the Disability Movement in Ghana” Project. The five year scheme was divided into two phases.
The project is intended to unite and strengthen the disability movement in Ghana through building the advocacy and development capacity of the beneficiary organizations. |
The inception phase which spanned between July 2008 and December 2009 was intended to evolve various structures and organizational development frameworks. These include the development of an advocacy strategy, a contextual analysis of the disability situation in Ghana, information and communication flow guidelines and other relevant organizational development frameworks. Other tools include a training manual and handbook for Organization of Persons with Disability in Ghana.
In a welcome address at the launch of the second phase of the project, at the Accra Rehabilitation Center, the GFD President, Mr Samuel Asare noted that, the initial segment of the scheme in the three pilot districts, namely Ho, Birim South and Manya Krobo, has taught the Federation some useful lessons which shall be replicated in eight selected districts, during the next phase.
Between 2010 and 2013, the various tools will be implemented at both national and eight districts from four regions. The beneficiary districts include, Lawra, Bongo, Kenyasi and five others.
