GHANA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED CONGRATULATES
PROF. JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS |
Ghana Federation of the Disabled (GFD), the national umbrella of organisations of persons with Disabilities wishes to commend all the political parties in the just ended parliamentary and presidential elections, for a relatively smooth electioneering process in which Ghana emerged the overall winner.
GFD fervently hopes the new government will redeem its campaign promises to Ghanaians in general but especially those promises made to Persons with Disability, just before the 2008 general elections.
It is our firm belief that when the president, Prof. JEA Mills talks about an all-inclusive government, it carries with it an implicit call for an all-inclusive society in which the needs and aspirations of all segments of the populace are taken into consideration particularly when plans are being drawn for national development.
In line with the government’s plan for an inclusive society, GFD will like to call on the President as well as the appointments/vetting committee to seriously consider qualified Persons with Disability for appointment into higher political positions of trust.
GFD also wishes to use this medium to call on the president, Prof. JEA Mills to as a matter of urgency inaugurate the National Council on Persons with Disability within its first one (100) hundred days in office, as a clear demonstration of commitment to the cause of persons with disabilities (pwds), who incidentally form a significant (Estimated by the World Health Organisation to be around 10%) proportion of the total population of Ghana.
GFD wishes the NDC government all the very best of luck as it begins the arduous task of national development.
Signed:
Yaw Ofori Debra
(Chairman, GFD Advocacy committee)
